NYSOGA WINTER RENDEZVOUS
Winter Rendezvous is a formal gathering of licensed guides from across the state held each year in March. Winter Rendezvous is the forum for our First Aid, CPR and Water Safety trainings for prospective new guides as well as the venue for re-certifications for current guides. Winter Rendezvous is also a site used by DEC for it's spring testing of new guide candidates. This event is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring guides to acquire all the certifications necessary for obtaining a New York State guide license in a 3 day period. The annual meeting for NYSOGA members and the election of new officers to the board of directors is held on Saturday afternoon, as well as regional meetings and appointing of regional directors. These meetings are followed by the annual banquet, awards presentations and an evening of socializing and fun. All Rendezvous attendees and their guests are welcomed to the banquet and evening activities. As with summer rendezvous there is also time for enjoying the company of fellow guides renewing friendships and making new friends. Come join the fun!
NYSOGA WINTER RENDEZVOUS XXXVI - "WALKING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF LEGENDS"
Save the dates! NYSOGA is planning a great 2017 Winter Rendezvous for guides, aspiring guides, families, and guests.
March 23-26, 2017
Frost Valley YMCA, 2000 Frost Valley Rd. Claryville, NY 12725
NYSOGA charter members from 1982 who are still active today.
The 2017 Winter Rendezvous Committee invites you to join your fellow NYSOGA guides, their families, prospective guides, and guests at the Frost Valley YMCA in Claryville, NY for Winter Rendezvous XXXVI
It is with an eye on the horizon, that we venture to the heart of the Catskills, for the next step in our great journey. As always we look forward to reuniting with friends and loved ones. We also look forward to leading the next generation of guides on their endeavors to pursue the skills, and craft of guiding. Frost Valley YMCA nestled in the heart of the Catskills, in the shadow of the legendary Burroughs Range, and snuggled up against the legendary waters of the Beaverkill. This region has given rise to much legend, and lore of these Catskill Mountains. Frost Valley YMCA has come a long way since its founding in 1885 as Camp Wawayanda, the nation's first overnight camp for boys located in New Jersey. Many things have changed—including a move to Claryville, New York, and a name change to Frost Valley YMCA—but the core values remain the same. Frost Valley is still guided by the same principles—Caring, Community, Diversity, Honesty, Inclusiveness, Respect, Responsibility, and Stewardship—this is evident in the community of staff, students, and visitors, that hold Frost Valley dear in their hearts. We are grateful for the opportunity to reach out to existing, and prospective guides in this region. We have seen a recent surge in recreation and guiding in the Catskills, and feel it is our duty to lead our fellow guides, on their path of growth and development. The Frost Valley is a wonderful venue, and a community as well. There are several lodging options all surrounding the Geyer conference hall allowing for an easy walk from one venue to another. Check their website to learn more.
The Rendezvous Committee has put together a very special weekend we hope you will all enjoy! The usual training, meetings, seminars, and meals are on the schedule. There is also time for us spend with our NYSOGA friends that we may only see once a year. We hope to take the time to welcome many new members to the NYSOGA family as well. By joining us at the Rendezvous, you can learn about opportunities to grow your skills, and guiding business, through seminars, and networking with NYSOGA guides.
